Luminary Week Day One: Ride Of The Luminary!

Time, once again, for MusicMonday™ and our foray into the world of Millennium Musical Montages and what’s more it heralds the beginning of a week devoted to the magic that is Season Two’s Luminary.

Luminary continually ranks as one of the most appreciated and enjoyed episodes of the whole three seasons, due in no small part to the superb script of writer Chip Johannessen. It didn’t come as much of a surprise to me that this episode blew away the competition when it came to you guys selecting the next subject of our themed week of events.

So it’s time for the popcorn and soda as we settle back for another of Josef’s fine video creations and despite my constant assertions, he just gets better and better with each passing week. An episode as philosophical and beautiful as Luminary deserves a montage treatment every bit as precious and it has certainly gotten just that. Enjoy folks and try not to think of the word ‘mesmerizing’ as you watch this, it’s impossible, I tell you.

As always, we thank our resident video alchemist Josef for taking this campaign and continuing to plug it in the vast abyss that is Youtube. especially in light of the fact that Marburg has infected his usual editing software and the poor chap has had seven and one years of trials and tribulations trying to get it together. I hope he realises how much everyone appreciates his hard work.

So please keep your eyes on the Blog for a week of ‘this and that’ all in honour of your favourite, and mine, Luminary. With a Luminary panel podcast, interview with Chip Johannessen and an exclusive competition and more besides there is certainly much to enjoy this week. On with the show!

As promised, each music new release from Josef will be accompanied by a postcard that we urge you to send to Steve Asbell at 20th Century Fox. Making 20th Century Fox aware that we are here to stay and active in our support of a Millennium Movie. Let’s be as inspired as Alex was during this episode and follow our dreams, against the odds, despite the hardships and bring Frank Black back to the screen where he belongs. I know you guys won’t let us down.

  1. Holy cow! Mark, the postcard is absolutely gorgeous!Better than my video, for sure.Again, a wink-wink help from yours truly. But I just have the ideas, and you just blow all that away, so much I don't even think of it as my idea. It's that much original creation.I'm beginning to have more interest in what you'll come up with after you get my video or while I'm editing the video.Don't be dark!Cheers from Iceland!- Jósef

  3. I missed that Chief, wish I had caught it from seeing the info in the link and I can think of one lady who would be in her element right now so this week is dedicated to Erin whilst she's 'alone in the wild' and struggling with her internet connection. This one is for you dear friend. Thanks on the kudos regarding the postcard Josef and do not sell yourself short, the video is head and shoulders above anything I have done and a considerably damn sight harder to pull off.Part of the joy in creating these postcards is not knowing what's coming next until you tell me what you're tackling. Keeps it fresh and enjoyable for me too.

  5. ♥♥Wow! Everything looks very beautiful at BackToFrankBlack today. Lovely work boys♥♥ Luminary made me cry big girl-tears the first time I saw it. I was a huge fan of The X-Files before I found Millennium and I couldn't tempt my sister into watching them with me so I used to scurry upstairs and watch them in the dark on my own. Alex's story is so sad, especially the part when he says he didn't want to die, he just wanted to live and I absolutely bawled my eyes out at that point. This video is very different from the others. Very haunting and very beautiful and I really like that there's no singing. A perfect track. Part of the fun of Monday is seeing how Josef has outdone his last weeks efforts and I really thought he might have peaked with Lucy. I was wrong.I would love to know what his best video choice would be from his own work?

  7. What a moving and touching video and I love the fact it follows Frank's journey through that episode and sheds all the trappings of The Group, Catherine and Jordan and so on. I don't know how this man finds the time for such excellent work but I'm so glad he does. Keep it up dude.

  11. I remember when Luminary first aired in the UK (on Sky One). TV Zone (a UK sci-fi/genre magazine) rated this episode very highly if I recall. They gave it either a 9 or 10 out of 10.Where was the episode filmed? Were the Northern Lights (aka 'aureora borealis') featured in this episode? It's been ages since I've seen it. But that clip in the video looked like the natural light show.

  13. Thanks so much for the comments. It's been a struggle, but I finally managed to hand in the video on Sunday. If you can stay at home after work and you work in shifts, then you certainly have time for almost anything ;)It's hard to single out one favorite video. I really like the first one I did, a truly solid video that manages to tell a story of Frank's investigation as well Frenchman's tortured mind.I do consider the Lara Means/Emma Hollis/Heartbeat (as it's really tightly editied to the music, not that I wasn't doing that with the NIN songs either 😉 videos being better than the others though. But obviously there are parts I like in all of them for one or another reason.Cheers from Iceland!- Jósef

  15. The Northern Lights were in this episode, hence the blue lighting in that forest scene. If I had taken footage from another episode, I would have stated that at the end.I think it's CGI, it has always looked fake to me, much like the lights in the film "Frequency" with Dennis Quaid.- Jósef

  21. INCREDIBLE!… have only recently seen "Into the Wild" but having thought about such a calling for about 50 years, [ only a lack of true courage kept me from it]. Seeing this [and the ep Luminary] makes me wish I was still physically able for such a journey.
